UI / UX · one of five concerns

A control that cannot be understood is not a control.

UI and UX determine whether people can see the state of the work, understand the next action, recover from an error and reach the right owner. Good appearance is only the beginning.

01 · Perspective

Perspective begins with the person in the situation.

Do not start with screens. Start with the person’s goal, pressure, information, authority and likely mistake. The experience includes the handover, the waiting, the correction and the consequences—not only the surface.

What would a person need to know before they can act without guessing?

02 · Performance

Performance is the quality of the journey.

A usable interface reduces avoidable effort while preserving the information needed for a responsible decision. Measure completion together with correction, abandonment, rework and help-seeking.

Signal

Understand

Can people tell what the system is showing and why?

Work

Act

Can they complete the next step with the authority they have?

Consequence

Recover

Can they correct, undo or escalate without losing the work?

Question

Ask

Where does the experience ask people to remember what the interface should show?

03 · Precision

Precision turns usability into a testable promise.

Define the user, task, state, content, error, recovery path and accessibility needs. A polished interface is not precise if users cannot tell what will happen next.

Define before selecting

Define the moment

What decision or action should become easier here?

Accept before scaling

Define the recovery

What should happen when the user is uncertain, wrong or interrupted?

04 · Practice

UI / UX becomes practice when the experience teaches the method while the work is being done.

The interface exposes the rule, the system keeps the record, and feedback returns to the people who can improve the service. Experience is part of governance.

Sources and notes

Read the basis, then test it in context.

The sources support accessibility, human-centred design and system responsibility. The four-P route remains an editorial way to apply those concerns to technology work.

  1. W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 — accessibility criteria make experiences more perceivable, operable and understandable.
  2. ISO 9241-210:2019 — human-centred design considers people, tasks and context throughout design.
  3. ISO/IEC 27001:2022 — controls must be supported by people, processes and technology.
