What ISO 9001 is—and is not
ISO 9001 is a requirements standard for a quality management system. It can be used by organizations of any size or sector. It does not prescribe one operating model, guarantee perfect products, or certify an individual learner. The organization defines and operates its system, while an independent certification body performs the certification audit.
ISO itself develops and publishes standards; it does not certify organizations. Certification can demonstrate that an organization’s system has been assessed against the applicable requirements.
